Compressor oil works under continuous heat, pressure and contact with hot air, which is exactly where a cheap or mismatched fluid fails. The wrong base stock or a low-quality substitute shortens drain intervals, builds deposits and accelerates wear on the most expensive parts of the machine. Choosing a fluid formulated for the duty, and topping up with the same fluid, keeps the compressor running clean and predictable.

Choosing the right grade

Compressor fluids are specified by viscosity (commonly ISO VG 32, 46 and 68) and by base stock, from premium mineral to full synthetic. The correct choice depends on the compressor type, operating temperature and the interval you want to run. Always match the manufacturer's specification, and avoid mixing fluids of different chemistries.
